Founded in 1727, Belmont was originally part of the Town of Gilmanton and separated in 1859. Belmont’s location on the Tioga River meant that the town grew up around the construction of mills that produced cotton and woolen textiles. With both Lake Winnisquam and Silver Lake bordering the town to the west, there is plenty of opportunity for water fun. Whether you enjoy spending your summer’s boating, fishing or sailing Belmont’s lakeside location means that summer activity is never far away.
