Center Harbor was founded in 1797 after separating from the town of New Hampton. Centered between the Meredith and Moultonborough harbors, the town was a landing place of lake steamers and stagecoaches and has long been a popular summer resort. Center Harbor was even the home of Dudley Leaver, who was the author of the first Farmers’ Almanac and was the site of the first intercollegiate sporting event in the US, the Harvard-Yale Regatta in 1852. Today Center Harbor is still a popular summer resort with both locals and tourists enjoying the numerous lakeside activities available.
