Incorporated as a town in 1855 and becoming a city in 1893, Laconia is the center piece of the Lakes Region. Mills were an important part of the town’s history, and the Belknap Mill in downtown is the oldest unaltered brick textile mill in the country. The surrounding lakes have long been the major draw for the town as Laconia has long been a destination for summer fun. Surrounded by mountains as well as Lake Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam and Opechee Laconia has become an all season destination with skiing and ice fishing in winter and sailing and boating in the summer months.
Laconia has a number of water access communities with single family homes and condominiums providing a great opportunity for buyers at all price points. Some communities to explore are South Down Shores, Long Bay, Meredith Bay and Christmas Island Lake Houses.
